Open Water Squads

SwimWell and Robert 'Butch' Butcher have teamed up to offer Open Water Swim Squads on up to three locations every day along Melbourne's Port Philip Bay Beaches. These conditioning sessions are suitable for intermediate and advanced swimmers.
Duration: 1hr
Distance covered approx. 3k. 
Cost: $15 
Your coach will hold the sessions either from a kayak or the beach. Program for each session will be the same on the day for each location.


The sessions will be held at: 
  • Elwood - Life Saving Club
  • Half Moon Bay - BRYC
  • Mentone Life Saving Club
Any changes due to weather conditions will be posted by 6pm the day before on the Bay Open Water Swimmers Facebook Group.  
Please arrive early and get ready to swim before the session starts. 
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we cannot offer any facilities other than what's available to the public.

 All three coaches have been active in the Bayside Swimming Community for many years and are very proud of having helped many swimmers achieve their dream of competing at Kona or swimming the English Channel.

Peter Hendriks

Peter is a certified Total Immersion Swim Coach and is passionate about all things technique and open water swimming. 

Charlie Evans

Charlie is an accredited  ASCTA Swim Coach and instructor and Open Water Enthusiast. 

Robert 'Butch'  Butcher

Butch is an accredited ASCTA swim coach and one of Melbourne's most experienced Squad instructors.
